The South Florida Times reports that 21 new members were recently inducted into the Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc recently. Their process culminated on June 10 with an induction and luncheon.
Under the direction of chapter President Sandra L. Jackson and Membership Chairman Janice Spann-Givens, the 21 ladies underwent a process of learning about the organization and providing community service at a Miami women’s shelter.
Prior to their induction, the newest members, known as F.O.R.E.V.E.R. 21, conducted a community service project in Overtown at the Lotus House, which houses women affected by drug abuse and domestic violence as well as their children, ages 7 and under. They donated a vanload of clothing to the thrift store and dressed as popular children’s characters such as Dr. Seuss, Princess Jasmine, Dorothy and Pocahontas to read stories to the children.
